Pest control contracts: what to check

Plans that renew every year on their own, fees to cancel, door to door sign ups. What to read in a Florida pest control agreement, and companies that need no contract.

Figures from licensed company listings checked Oct 17, 2026

Most Florida pest control is sold as a plan: monthly, every other month or quarterly visits for a set price. Plans are reasonable for a state with year round bugs. The complaints come from the agreement around the plan.

The three things to find in the agreement

  1. How long it runs. Twelve months is common. Some door to door sales are written for longer.
  2. Whether it renews on its own. Some agreements renew every year unless you cancel in writing, sometimes by certified mail within a window before the anniversary.
  3. What it costs to cancel. A common fee is paying back a discount on the first visit if you cancel early.

Door to door sales

Salespeople with tablets selling pest control door to door are a frequent complaint in Orlando, Kissimmee and Jacksonville threads. In 2026 FDACS fined one company $36,000 and banned a sales firm from pest control activity in Florida after it illegally solicited more than 600 contracts. Florida pest control must be done by the licensed company's own employees, not independent contractors. Ask for the company's FDACS license number at the door and look it up before you sign.

Companies that say no contract

106 of the 3575 licensed companies listed here say on their website that service needs no contract, and 412 sell quarterly plans. The 53 companies that post a general pest price per visit charge $30 to $95, middle $45.

If something goes wrong

Ask for the certified operator or branch manager first. If that fails, FDACS takes written complaints about pest control companies and will tell you a company's complaint history for the last three years.
